Caynan Sherwood is an organic row crop farmer at Two Mile Creek Organic Farms in Sullivan, Illinois. When Caynan retired from the U.S. Army in 2016, he and his family moved back to central Illinois. Caynan was working a desk job, and completing his bachelor’s degree, when his father-in-law approached him about the benefits of a career in agriculture. In 2017, Caynan joined the family farm and never looked back.
Shortly after joining the family business, Caynan became passionate about the positive impacts agriculture can have on a community. In 2018, he met Michael O’Gorman who introduced him to Farmer Veteran Coalition. That introduction gave Caynan another reason to further serve his community through agriculture. In the summer of 2019, Caynan became president of the newly established Illinois state chapter of FVC.
Caynan continues to learn more about regenerative farming through strong mentors and networking with others throughout the country. He is excited about farming and the values it brings to his family now and for many generations to come. GO ARMY: BEAT NAVY!
