Mariel Barreras is an Army wife, mother, and farmer. Mariel has a master’s degree in Nonprofit Leadership and Management with a minor in Marketing. Together with her husband and children they own and operate Barreras Family Farm in Nebraska. Their farm raises cattle, pork, egg laying hens, and collaborates with another veteran farmer who raises bee hives on their farm.
Mariel’s emphasis is on the adult and child farm education programs, summer camps, their Rent-a-Chick program, and internships that their farm offers. Their farm is dedicated to emulate the seven Army Values both in their daily farm operations and community involvement. They strive to operate their farm with a Christ-centered perspective, dedicated to sustainable land and animal stewardship and to the distribution of high-quality farm products. Their family’s heart is to the people they serve.
